The eerie fortune teller
You walk into the building with the fortune teller sign outside of it.
You figure it would be fun to have your fortune told. The room is dark, and the
air is smoky and thick with inscense. In the middle of the room is a round table
with two chairs. One is occupied, evidently, by the fortune teller. She seems to be
in a trance, you think. You realize she is gazing intently into her large
crystal ball. You see a few candles dispersed around the room in various places.
You sit down in the empty chair.
"Madam? I'd like for my--" you begin but are cut off with a:
"Yes, yes, your fortune. That's what everyone looks for when they come in here."
from the fortune teller.
Isn't that the point? you think to yourself, but say "Would you please
give me a reading?"
"Of course. Is there anything you particularly are looking for in your destiny?"
"Umm....well...." you stammer. "No, not really."
She makes a face that seems to portray her as annoyed. "No one does. How can
I give you a reading if you don't know what you want?"
"I don't know." you answer, and are beginning to become very annoyed yourself.
"Do you want a reading or not?"
You sigh and spit something out at random. "Will I have any luck in love in the near future?"
"That's better. Now, take a deep breath."
You do.
"Now, be quiet as I look into the ball for the answer."
You nod.
She begins to chant: "Alalalal folllauma alskso kdnoojsokjds!!!"
"What?!" you blurt.
"Be quiet! That was just me clearing my throat. Now, may I start your fortune?"
You roll your eyes.
She begins to hum, and then stops and looks into the crystal ball. She stares at it for
five minutes.
"Well?" you ask.
She stares for a little while longer. "No." she finally says.
"No what?"
"No, you will not have any luck in love in the near future."
"It took you that long to tell me a one-word answer?" you ask, quite perplexed.
"You only asked me a one-word answer question. Now give me a silver coin and be on your way."
You resentfully pay and stand up. You see in the corner a collection of dolls
and trinkets, all bearing the same symbol. You walk over to see it.
She quickly stands up, grabs you by the shirt and says "You're dismissed. Goodbye!"
And with that, she picks you up (to your large surprise) and carries you out.
You are now standing in the market.
